Feds: National Christmas road toll rises to 14
SYDNEY, Dec 21 AAP - The deaths of two women in separate accidents on Queensland roads
today has pushed the national holiday road toll to 14.
Queensland police said a 72-year-old female passenger in a four-wheel drive died when
the vehicle and caravan it was towing overturned 5km east of the town of Westmar in the
state's south west.
An 11-year-old girl in the Landrover was taken to St George Hospital with suspected
spinal injuries.
Two other people suffered minor injuries.
In another accident today, a 78-year-old woman died after her four-wheel drive utility
plunged 20 metres down an embankment near Mount Glorious, north-west of Brisbane.
The accident happened just before 1000 (AEST) on the Goat Track, a dirt road which
connects Mount Glorious and Mount Nebo roads.
The women's deaths took Queensland's Christmas road toll to three.
Meanwhile, five people have died on Victorian roads.
Three people have died in Western Australia, and two deaths have been reported in South
Australia.
NSW has recorded one death.
Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory remained fatality-free today.
