WA: Teachers to demonstrate over pay claim
PERTH, Aug 14 AAP - West Australian teachers will stage weekly demonstrations outsideEducation Minister Alan Carpenter's office in support of a pay rise, the Australian EducationUnion (AEU) said today.
The teachers are demanding a 10 per cent pay rise each year for three years, whilethe government has offered three per cent per year.
AEU WA president Pat Byrne said teachers from the Peel and Fremantle districts woulddemonstrate outside Mr Carpenter's office on Friday afternoons after school in protestsat the government's offer.
She said WA teachers also planned to join their NSW and Victorian counterparts in anunprecedented coordinated strike on September 17.
"We are continuing to negotiate with the government on the enterprise bargaining agreement,but we are willing to take action if our demands are not met," Ms Byrne said.
