Organist premieres new work at concert

Winscombe Orchestra's spring concert included the world premiereof a specially commissioned work by a former assistant organist atWells Cathedral.

Composer and organist David Bednall worked at the cathedral until2007 and accompanied the choirs in many concerts and on radio andtelevision broadcasts.

His new work, The Sea Is Calm Tonight, was written for fullorchestra and tenor soloist, and consisted of settings of poemsabout the sea by Emily Dickinson, Matthew Arnold, Thomas LovellBeddoes and Alfred Lord Tennyson.
